ACC Expert Analysed The 10th Left Main and Coronary Bifurcation Summit

Syed Tanveer Rab, MBBS, FACC

ACC, Jan 10, 2018 - The 10th Left Main and Coronary Bifurcation Summit (CBS) was held in Nanjing, China, November 30 through December 3, 2017. It is a remarkable accomplishment for Professor Shao Liang Chen, MD, FACC, of the University of Nanjing and Nanjing First Hospital to organize this meeting, the largest in the world on these topics, with 1,200 attendees and 60 international faculty representing all continents.

The meeting highlighted the double kissing crush stenting technique trial series I -VII that began in 2004 and its contribution to the current management of left main (LM) and coronary bifurcation stenosis.

The meeting was preceded with a 2-day session on coronary imaging with parallel sessions on coronary atherosclerosis, signaling in coronary plaques, shear stress, and the evolving technology of computed fractional flow reserve. Investigations in shear stress in pulmonary hypertension and pulmonary denervation were also discussed.

Interventional cardiologists from the United States were well represented. Dr. Gregg Stone, MD, FACC, of The Cardiovascular Research Foundation presented the keynote address and moderated several sessions. Gary Mintz, MD, FACC, of The Cardiovascular Research Foundation received the career achievement award for organizing the intravascular imaging sessions for the past 8 years at CBS. There were several combined CBS and JACC: Cardiovascular Intervention sessions moderated by the journal's editor, David Moliterno, MD, FACC, including translational research, sessions for early career cardiologists, and main arena sessions.

There were 140 presentations and 28 live percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) cases performed by expert international interventionalists on LM and bifurcation stenosis. Tanveer Rab, MD, FACC, from Emory University participated in a complex PCI roadshow involving satellite hospitals and performed the first Impella (Abiomed; Danvers, MA) placement in China for protected LM PCI during a live case demonstration.
